Gas prices do not support ‘buy locally’ movement

To the editor:

Today, I went to Nashville for an appointment to the VA Hospital. Returning, I stopped in Oak Grove for gas. The gas at MAPCO cost $3.27 per gallon. Returning home, I heard an announcement on WKDZ radio. “Buy locally, these businesses support our community.” I had to laugh when I got off at exit 65 and saw the price at all the gas stations at this exit was $3.70. At 43 cents a gallon above the price 21 miles down the road, it is not these businesses supporting this community, but the people who pay these prices. Another incident, last fall I purchased a toaster from a local business; when I got home, the cord had been removed. I was lucky I still had my old toaster. I took the cord from it to make the new toaster work. I promised myself I would never again buy anything in Cadiz.
