The Trigg County 4-H Club, which is starting a small arms shooting team, is proposing a shooting range at the Trigg County Recreation Complex.

At their meeting Monday evening, Trigg County Recreation Complex Board members discussed the issue but took no action. Complex Board Chairman Jason Strickland said the 4-H group is focusing on rifles, handguns and trap shooting.

“They’re talking to [Trigg County] Fiscal Court about some land out here, to be able to establish a range. Jessie Frye is kind of heading that up, as well as Keith Lancaster and James Thomas,” said Strickland. “As far as insurance, it would be insured through a private company they’ve contracted with and the Extension Service through UK. So county insurance would be way down the line … That’s something the Fiscal Court and 4-H would work out.”

Currently, the 4-H group is looking at land behind the Convention Center for a rifle and handgun range, said Strickland.
