A recent anonymous donation to Trigg County Rescue means their boat has just been equipped with a sonar device.

“It’s a needed piece of equipment,” said Paula Flood with Trigg County Rescue.

She identified it as a Lowrance HDS 9 side-scanning sonar device. Sonar is used to detect objects underwater, and side-scanning sonar is often used to create an image of large areas of the bottom of a body of water.

Flood said that the donation was made more than two weeks ago, but they want to learn more about how to use it from Marshall County Rescue before putting it into practice, as they have more experience with it.

Most of the searches in which the device would be needed would likely be joint ventures between the Trigg and Marshall County Rescues anyway, as most of those searches would be of Lake Barkley or Kentucky Lake, Flood said.
