Jayven Jones won Class 2A 1st Region Championships in long jump and triple jump Saturday at Paducah Tilghman.

Jones, a senior, was the only Trigg County High School competitor to qualify for Friday’s state championship in Lexington. His long jump of 20 feet, five inches was the sixth-best region championship performance among state qualifiers, 8.5 inches behind Arien Beasley of North Oldham. Jones’ triple jump of 39-11 was 11th best, 3-1 behind Bryan Cummings of South Warren.

The state championship meet will be held at the University of Kentucky’s outdoor track facility. Jones will compete in the triple jump at 4:30 p.m. EST and the long jump at 6 p.m.

Other Trigg boys results from the regional include:

100-meter dash: Jones, fifth, :11.93;

110-meter hurdles: Ian Shake, sixth, :21.42;

1600-meter run: Brandon Lewis, fifth, 5:05.76.
