To the editor:

During our closing day luncheon, I was awarded the PTA Primary/Intermediate 2013-2014 Trigg County Intermediate Teacher of the Year Award. I was very surprised and honored to receive the award.

First, I want to thank the parents and students of the Intermediate School for the nomination. When I heard my name called, I was wonderfully shocked. It meant a lot to me knowing that the community (parents and students) believed enough in my ability and skill as an educator to take time out of their busy lives to nominate me for this award.

Secondly, I would like to thank the officers and volunteers of the PTA (Parent/Teacher Association). They are the ones who deserve an award. The members of our PTA spend countless hours devoting themselves to supporting and enhancing what we, as teachers, do in the classrooms. These members don’t do what they do for the glory or the accolades, but for the educational benefit for all our children and for the future of our community.

Next, I would like to thank my wife, children, parents, family members, colleagues, and friends for their love and support for me as an educator for the past 17 years. Without these people I would not be the person (teacher) that I am today.

Last but most importantly, I would like to thank God. He blessed me with the talent to teach. I want to make sure I use this talent to the best of my ability.

Once again I would like to say how honored I am to be selected as the 2013-2014 PTA Trigg County Intermediate School Teacher of the Year.
