The causeways to the new Eggners Ferry Bridge (above) are still under construction.

The two replacement U.S. 68/Ky. 80 bridges over Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley are on schedule with regard to both design and construction.

That was the message at last Wednesday’s Regional Transportation Committee meeting, held at the Pennyrile Area Development District Office in Hopkinsville. J.B. Williams, who represents the engineering firm Michael Baker Jr., Inc., updated committee members. Williams is the project manager tasked with oversight of the projects.

The new four-lane bridge replacing the current two-lane bridge over Kentucky Lake is in its construction phase and is scheduled to be completed by November 2015, while the sister bridge over Lake Barkley is scheduled to begin by December, Williams said.

“The Kentucky Lake project is totally under construction,” said Williams. “Now, the main crossing … is just beginning. But they’ve put in a new causeway.”
