The Canton Hotel, one of the oldest buildings in Trigg County, is currently being renovated and could become a bed and breakfast soon.

County and City Building Inspector Frank Wallace says he doesn’t know when the bed and breakfast is scheduled to open. But he did say the woman in charge is currently living in it already, and for now, they’re trying to weatherize it.

“They’ve replaced the windows, done some retouching on the brick, replaced the guardrails on the staircase on the outside, They’re possibly going to add a small addition for a laundry room on the back,” said Wallace. “They’re putting a new roof on it at this time. They’re just about finished with the brick.”

Although Cadiz-Trigg County Planning Commission Chairman Bob Brame mentioned it at last Tuesday’s CTCPC meeting, all he knew at the time was that the property is being renovated.

According to the Trigg County Historical and Preservation Society, the building was built by Abraham Boyd “shortly before 1820” and was known as the Red Brick Inn, back when the town was called Boyd’s Landing. Trigg County was formally established in 1820.
