Trigg unemployment up slightly in May

Trigg County’s official unemployment rate stayed almost the same, from 7.3 percent in April to 7.7 percent in May, according to statistics released Thursday morning by the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

In May, Trigg County’s official workforce consisted of 6,418 people, 5,925 whom were listed as employed and 493 of whom were listed as unemployed. The official unemployment rate for the Pennyrile region 8.3 percent, while the state’s was 7.5 percent. The U.S. comparable rate was 6.1 percent.

Christian County’s official unemployment rate was 9.4 percent, while Todd County’s was 7.8 percent. Lyon County’s rate was 9 percent, while Livingston’s was 9.1 percent. Marshall County’s rate was 9.3 percent and Calloway County’s rate was 8.5 percent.

Boone County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 5.2 percent. It was followed by Kenton County, 5.6 percent, Campbell and Shelby counties, 5.8 percent each.
