Campbell, who won the Helen Keller Award recently, is the Leader Dogs Kentucky State Chairperson and the Leader Dogs District 43K Chairperson. She has been involved with the program for 11 years now. The award features a quote from Helen Keller: “We are never truly happy until we try to brighten the lives of others.”
The Lions Club works with people with all levels of vision impairment, supplying not only seeing-eye dogs but also helping to sponsor cornea and iris transplants, she said.
“I’m legally blind now, and that’s what drew me to the Lions,” said Campbell. “They work with all visions. We’re actually supporting not only the blind but low-vision. We do a lot with vision.”
