Toree Rogers (above) announced last week that she will be the new TCHS softball coach.

Billy Fortner has stepped down as Trigg County High School’s softball coach, and the vacancy has been filled by Toree Rogers.

Rogers is a 2009 graduate of Calloway County High School, where she played on the Lady Laker softball team. She went on to play at Murray State University, where she earned her degree this year.

Rogers, who is also a teacher at Trigg County Middle School, was a student teacher at TCMS during the spring semester while serving as an assistant coach for Murray High School’s team.

“I loved student-teaching here and loved the community,” Rogers said. “When there was a job opportunity, I took it quickly. Softball is my passion, so I was immediately asking how I could get involved.”

Rogers is assisting middle school coach Michele Glass during the team’s fall season and said she sees a bright future for Trigg’s program.
