A bid opening for the proposed new Cadiz Public Works Department building is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, at Cadiz City Hall.

The new building will be built on the same site as the current building, which is across the street from The Cadiz Record on Nunn Boulevard. Cadiz Public Works Director Kerry Fowler said it that at almost 12,000 square feet, it would be about 4,000 square feet larger than the current building. He argued that his department needs more space.

“We are cramped. It’s full,” said Fowler.

The new building, which has an estimated cost of $700,000, would also have a much more open garage space than the current building, with 10,000 square feet devoted to the garage part and almost 2,000 square feet allotted for an administrative area. Fowler said that he received final plans for the new building on Thursday morning.
